Tips for creating a great listing on Tooleo
Creating a great listing on Tooleo is key to getting lots of rentals for your tools and equipment, but a great listing takes time. Expect to take 10-15 minutes per listing that you create.
List your tools and equipment1. Start with quality, well-maintained tools and equipment
- Tooleo is a marketplace of good quality, fully functional, safe tools and equipment. List gear on Tooleo that works well for the job at hand without problems.
- We will not publish listings for tools and equipment that looks like you just pulled it out of a dumpster.
2. Create a great personal profile
- People are renting your tools, but they need to trust you.
- Your profile on Tooleo should include a photo in which your face is clearly visible. Avoid sunglasses.
- Include a short bio describing your experience with home projects and usage of your tools.
3. Add 3-5 great photos. Yes. People like photos.
- Photos should be well-lit, with your tools/equipment as the hero, ideally with nothing else in the picture except a neutral background.
- Include 3-5 photos from different angles to show different parts of your tools/equipment. Wipe down tools before photos.
- Avoid photos with people--just tools/equipment please!
4. Include an accurate, detailed description
We've created an AI-powered listing generator that will help you post amazing description by just taking a photo. Simple instructions and the context document for AI is here.
All tool listings should include:
- What it does — describe the job it's designed for, not just the tool name. (e.g., "removes old hardwood finish down to bare wood" is more useful than "floor sander")
- Power source — battery, corded electric, gas, or pneumatic. If battery-powered, list the voltage and whether a battery and charger are included.
- Key specs — the numbers that tell a renter whether it's the right tool for their job. Vary by category (see below), but always include the most decision-relevant figure.
- Age and condition — approximately how old is it? Is it consumer-grade, prosumer, or pro? Note any cosmetic wear that doesn't affect function.
- What's included — list all accessories, attachments, hoses, bits, blades, or pads that come with the rental.
- What's not included / consumables needed — flag anything the renter needs to supply themselves (e.g., sandpaper, staples, mixing paddles, concrete forms).
- Anything the renter should know — quirks, tips for first-time users, or anything that affects results. Be honest; it builds trust and prevents disputes.
Category-specific specs to include:
- Pressure washers: PSI and GPM rating; gas vs. electric; surface cleaner or other nozzle attachments included
- Floor sanders (drum/orbital): drum vs. orbital; drum width; whether an edger is included; what grit pads/paper come with it
- Concrete and masonry tools: mixer drum capacity (cubic feet); jackhammer weight and chisel size; saw blade diameter and whether it's wet- or dry-cut
- Lawn and garden equipment: engine CC or amp rating; cutting width (mowers); chipping capacity in inches (chippers); whether a bag or collection system is included
- Compressors: tank size (gallons) and CFM at 90 PSI; max PSI; included fittings or hose
- Generators: running watts and surge watts; number and type of outlets; runtime at 50% load
- Ladders: type (extension, step, multi-position); maximum reach height; weight rating
- Tile saws: blade diameter; wet or dry cut; max tile size capacity
- Nailers and staplers: fastener type and size range (e.g., 15-gauge finish nails, 1.5"–2.5"); air-powered or battery
- Trailers and hauling gear: weight capacity; bed dimensions; hitch type and size required
5. Location
- The location of your listings on Tooleo is not anonymized. Anonymizing your location is important for security purposes.
- Rather than using your exact address, use a nearby address of a school, park, or public place or just use your zip code
- Don't worry, we approve listings before they go live and we won't approve your listing with a home address.
6. Pricing
Pricing is important and up to you. Some guidelines:
- Your pricing should aim to be 30% to 40% lower than the price to rent an equivalent tool at Home Deport or a local tool rental shop.
- Stay tuned for our pricing guides, which are coming soon.
